Test Automation Engineer
About The Role
To enable and enhance software quality assurance by designing, implementing and optimising a comprehensive set of automation testing activities and scenarios, ensuring that
software meets and exceeds defined quality specifications throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
To independently drive automation practices within a defined system or product area, ensuring effective test coverage, quality outcomes, and continuous improvement through
collaboration, innovation, and capability upliftment within the team
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum Experience:
- 3-5 years hands-on experience in automation testing
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/Node.js
- Solid experience with Playwright for end-to-end test automation
- Experience building and maintaining service stubs/mocks with Node.js
- Proficiency in SQL (esp. PostgreSQL and SQL Server
- Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka (consuming/producing test messages, validating event flows)
- Leading and mentoring less experienced or junior team members
Minimum Knowledge:
- Sound understanding of software development lifecycles and quality assurance principles
- Proficiency in automation testing frameworks and approaches across the testing lifecycle
- Working knowledge of modern development practices, including version control and continuous integration/continuous
delivery - Understanding of system integration, APIs, and data management concepts relevant to testing
- Familiarity with test management, defect tracking, and reporting practices
- Knowledge of cloud-based environments and distributed system architectures
- Ability to analyse, interpret, and validate system behaviour using appropriate testing techniques
- Capability to support and guide less experienced team members
Ideal:
- Exposure to non-functional testing practices, including performance and security testing
- Understanding of modern infrastructure and environment management approaches (e.g. cloud and containerisation)
- Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies and continuous delivery environments
- Knowledge of industry-specific systems and regulatory considerations
- Awareness of emerging practices, tools, and trends in quality engineering and test automation
Education (Minimum)
- Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Information Technology - Computer Science
Education (Ideal or Preferred)
- Software Testing - Foundation Level through the International Software Testing Qualification Board (ISTQB)
