Software Engineer

Description

Join Investec's Client Lifecycle Management (CLM) Corporate team as a Senior Backend Engineer, helping to build and evolve next-generation, cloud-based KYC and client lifecycle solutions.
You will work on backend services that support corporate client onboarding, due diligence and lifecycle events, contributing to the migration of core KYC capabilities to modern SaaS and cloud-native platforms.
This role offers hands-on exposure to Azure-based architectures, APIs, event-driven integrations and AI-enabled workflows, and is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building scalable backend services, integrating complex enterprise systems and working with modern cloud technologies in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services supporting KYC and corporate client lifecycle workflows.
• Build secure, high-performance C# / .NET APIs deployed on modern Azure compute platforms, including Azure Functions and Container Apps.
• Apply pragmatic clean architecture and domain modelling principles to keep services maintainable and testable.
• Contribute to the build and evolution of cloud-native, SaaS-oriented platforms as part of CLM modernisation.
• Work with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, Bicep or ARM, to support repeatable deployments.
• Secure workloads using Azure-native identity, secrets and configuration management.
• Build API and event-based integrations between KYC platforms and downstream enterprise systems.
• Publish and consume events using Azure messaging services such as Service Bus or Event Grid.
• Implement reliable integration patterns, including retries, idempotency and eventual consistency, to support scalable client lifecycle processes.
• Contribute to Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and quality gates.
• Write unit and integration tests to support safe and frequent releases.
• Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement of engineering standards.
• Instrument backend services with logging, metrics and tracing, such as Application Insights or OpenTelemetry.
• Help ensure services are resilient through appropriate error handling, retries and monitoring.
• Support production stability across critical client lifecycle systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, analysts and testers within the CLM Corporate domain.
• Contribute to technical discussions, design reviews and backlog refinement.
• Share learnings and continuously build capability in modern cloud and integration patterns.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 6 years' backend engineering experience.
• Strong experience with C# / .NET, including .NET Core or later.
• Proven experience building or integrating systems using APIs and asynchronous messaging.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Solid understanding of backend fundamentals, including security, logging, error handling and performance.
• Beneficial experience includes KYC, onboarding or client lifecycle systems; Dynamics 365 or Power Platform; event-driven or distributed architectures; financial services or regulated environments; and Microsoft Azure certifications.
