Bank hiring, in figures

What the ledger says about who's hiring, where, and for what — counted straight from the banks' own listings. Nothing modelled, nothing guessed: if a figure needs more history than we have, it waits.

On the record since 21 July 2026

The balance

Where the statement stands

409 open in South Africa balance today
+182 added last 7 days
−305 closed last 7 days

By bank

Open roles, bank by bank

Brands, not fetches: FirstRand's one feed carries FNB, RMB, WesBank and FirstRand itself, and each gets its own row — a teller looking for FNB should not have to know that.

The mix

What the work is, and where it is

By category

By province

Counted on each role's first listed location — the same basis as the province ledgers these rows link to. A handful of roles name no province at all, so they appear in no row here.

The daily balance

What came on, what came off

Every statement starts with an opening balance. Ours was struck on 21 July 2026 — the day we began keeping the record — so the first line below is the ledger as we found it, not a day's hiring.

Posting dates

When today's roles were posted

  • Sep 2026 324 roles
  • Aug 2026 28 roles
  • Jul 2026 7 roles
  • Jun 2026 3 roles
  • May 2026 1 role
  • Apr 2026 0 roles
  • older 32 roles
  • undated 14 roles

Investec and most Nedbank listings carry no posting date in the banks' own systems — they're counted here as undated rather than guessed. This is the shape of today's open ledger, not a record of how much each month was advertised: roles posted in June that have since closed are no longer here to be counted.

The fetch record

Every fetch, counted

2560 fetches since 21 July 2026 — 2402 clean, 158 cautioned or failed.

Date clean cautioned failed
5 Sep 38 5 2
6 Sep 48 6
7 Sep 40 5
8 Sep 48 6
9 Sep 30 3 3
10 Sep 40 5
11 Sep 48 6
12 Sep 46 6 2
13 Sep 38 4 3
14 Sep 40 5
15 Sep 32 4
16 Sep 31 4 1
17 Sep 28 8
18 Sep 42 12

A cautioned fetch is the guardrail doing its job: when a bank's feed looks odd, we hold back closures rather than guess. Nothing is closed here on one bad reading.

Method

How these figures are made

These figures are counted from the same records as every page on this site. What you won't find yet: how hiring moves with the seasons — a season has to pass before we can compare it. We'd rather show you the record we have than months we don't. The record lengthens three times a day.

Since 21 July 2026, 2044 roles have come off the statement. Half of them stood for 8 days or fewer.
