Description

Investec is looking for an Application Owner who will be responsible for managing the development, maintenance, and support of information technology solutions in order to identify and meet the present and future technological needs of the business. The role is primarily focused on looking after the Online Banking platform and evolving this to Group Shared Capabilities (Common Client Services). The primary expectations of the role include:

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management
• Lead, mentor, and grow a multi-disciplinary team of developers, business analysts, and quality assurance engineers.
• Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Foster collaboration across teams and with business stakeholders to ensure alignment and shared purpose.

Application and Delivery Ownership
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of applications and software systems withing the portfolio — from strategy through development, release, and ongoing operations.
• Define and execute the application roadmap in alignment with Investec's architectural and digital strategies.
• Champion engineering excellence, operational reliability, and technical debt management.

Stakeholder and Value Stream Alignment
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into technical delivery outcomes.
• Prioritise and deliver initiatives that provide measurable business value.
• Act as a key point of accountability for delivery, performance, and quality across the platform.

Financial and Operational Management
• Manage costs, budgets, and resourcing for the application portfolio.
• Monitor and report on key metrics such as application performance, delivery velocity, and service reliability.

Experience, Skills, and Capabilities

• 10+ years of experience in software development or a related technology field.
• Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary technology teams (developers, QA, BA) within complex environments.
• Strong track record of delivering business-critical applications in financial services or similar regulated industries.
• Experience in defining and implementing technology strategies and roadmaps.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders across business and technology domains.
• Solid understanding of modern delivery practices (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, Cloud-based architectures).
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate between business and technical audiences.
